When You've Been a Muse to Picasso...
“You should meet Roxana — you will love her and her shoes.” And so I did — and I did. The woman is petite and fierce. Her smile conveys the warmth of her Spanish roots and the sparkle in her eyes says, “I can do anything I set my mind to.”
When your great aunt was the muse to Picasso, I suppose nothing is too much for you. Roxana's great aunt's portrait by the Master shows a quiet determination and great elegance.
An elegance that was passed on to Roxana's grandmother who was a furrier in Barcelona — not an easy environment for a woman 100 years ago.
So when Roxana decided to change careers from a marketing position at Telus to creating the lightest (and very stylish) shoe on the market, she knew it was going to be tough but she was ready for battle. She called her company “Barcelona Collective”, magically enlisting the spirit of her female ancestors and their design talent. Roxana designs the collections in her Toronto office and they are made by hand in Mexico.
I LOVE her shoes. They are comfortable to a fault. The fabric stretches to really adapt to the shape of the foot. The sole is uber light-weight and heels height goes from almost flat to a sky high 4”. Bonus point: the shoes are washable.
I know several of you already own Roxana’s shoes — the new models are now on the Rue Pigalle website. I am really delighted to be collaborating with her.
