The Fall Colours of Prince Edward County

The Fall Colours of Prince Edward County

Fall is the most abundant season for colour as nature gives us one last blast of visual joy and pungent flavour before the muted tones of winter. As a designer, life can be busy but I always love to make time to get outdoors and take a quiet walk in nature to be inspired and refuel. It is great to bring these visual references back into my home and my creative space.

This inspiration can be seen in my Sumac wallpaper.

I fell in love with the beautiful leaves and pink waxy stems of these pretty bushes.

Throughout the season the Sumac 'bobs' or drupes change colour from a pastel pink to a deep dark red.

I like to find inspiration in pattern, textures and colour to bring warm tones into decorating my home during this time. My design influences are varied; whether it be a country walk taking in the natural landscape or looking at the pretty colours of vintage dresses found in the church thrift shop, I like to take ideas from everywhere.

The inspiration for my Garter Snake wallpaper came from a hot sunny walk in the meadow and watching these tiny little snakes slither away with every step I made. I wanted the design to be delicate, almost like a piece of antique lace.

Vintage finds also feed into my home decoration, whether it be a painted portrait or a china terrine with a beautiful woven surface, I love how these pieces play against the backdrop of my papers. I like to mix styles and don’t follow rules. I simply choose pieces because they make me happy!

During this season, harvest is abundant in Prince Edward County and we feel lucky to enjoy the bounty of vegetables and grapes grown around us. A lavish spectacle for the eyes and the taste buds; there is a definitely lot to be grateful for.
