Anita's #shoplocal Holiday Gift Guide

Anita's #shoplocal Holiday Gift Guide

Anita_HolidayCover.jpg

I start my holiday shopping late every year. I can't seem to change it, so I've adapted to keep my sanity. Now, I visit my favourite shops to find the perfect gifts. Shopping local isn't as easy as ordering from Amazon, but it's more thoughtful, memorable and original. Supporting local businesses in the neighbourhood feels pretty damn good too. Over the years, I've explored my little part of west-end Toronto discovering new stores by directionless wandering or purposeful visits spurred on by Instagram. The ones that impress me get added to my list of shops that delight in the city. I'm going to send you on a holiday shopping journey that introduces you to some new places that can lead to lovely gifts.

My favourite shop in Toronto is Fawn. I fear for my wallet when I walk through the doors because I always want everything. Minimalist simplicity is the theme that permeates the list sustainable womenswear brands available. Fawn is where I get my Black Crane fix every season.

Meet your new favourite pair of sweats. For a very long time, I obsessed over this men's streetwear brand out of Vancouver, Reigning Champ. I discovered them in the early days of my blog and fell in love with their made in Canada version of comfortable luxury. Now with their Toronto locations and a new women's line, I've turned an obsession into reality. Comfort is a blessing.

For the Kids

Reading is such a joy. We should encourage kids to read all the time. I'm a fan of giving books as gifts. Type Books is the place to find the perfect book to spark that interest. The knowledgeable staff can help with great suggestions for all tastes. The adult book selection isn’t bad either.

For the Best Friend

Souvenir showcases emerging contemporary designers, makers and artists. This beautiful store carries a wide selection of home goods (beautiful ceramics and glass), textiles, perfumes, candles, skin + body care, stationery and art. It's the perfect place for putting together a special self-care package with products like Province Apothecary and Charlotte & Castel.

For the Host

I can't imagine anyone would be upset when presented with a Ziggy Stardust Disco Egg instead of wine. It's the notorious adult Kinder egg that blew up Instagram when launched. It’s made with apricots, ancho chillies, and coffee beans and filled with single-origin Peruvian dark chocolate truffles. It's a decadent gift, and the host gets the fun of smashing it open in front of all the guests or in private if they don't want to share.
